Ad-hoc hybrid-heterogeneous metropolitan-range quantum key distribution network
The presentation shows a flexible ad-hoc QKD network over urban distances with fibre and free-space technology, mobile nodes and hybrid protocols - including a successful quantum-secured cloud connection.
In this presentation, we describe the design and implementation of a flexible ad-hoc quantum key distribution (QKD) network spanning metropolitan distances. The proposed solution
integrates a variety of physical channels and QKD protocols, using both trusted and untrusted nodes. Unlike conventional QKD networks that mainly depend on fiber-based or free-space optical (FSO) connections, the testbed combines both FSO and fiber, thereby mitigating inherent constraints. Multiple deployment strategies, such as permanent infrastructure and temporary ad-hoc links, are explored to eliminate coverage gaps. Additionally, the setup demonstrates rapid network establishment using portable FSO terminals and the investigation of diverse link topologies. Finally, our study confirms a successful quantum-secured connection to a cloud server.
